Award-winning KZN wine estate to launch new eating and drinking
experience
With the festive season a celebration of the past, The Stables Wine
Estate is looking into the future.
Tiny and Judy van Niekerk, who are breaking new ground in the wine
industry, agree the fun shouldn’t stop with New Year so, with the
Independent on Saturday, they have established experience kzn –
wine&dine. The idea is to introduce members of the association to new
eating and drinking experiences.
“Most people are conservative when it come to eating out so we’ve
decided to do the ground work; members need only arrive,” explains Judy.
“We’ll source a restaurant and provide the wines to pair with the
dishes. We’ll also introduce a selection of guest wines, including those
from similar climatic regions around the world and garagiste wines from
other regions in South Africa. The primary focus will be on The Stables
Wine Estate wines and we’ll familiarise guests with the products and the
industry. We are delighted the Independent on Saturday is partnering us
in this exciting, new venture.”
There will be no fee to join the association and you’ll receive more
than expected. Pre-launch tastings of new Stables’ wines, VIP
invitations to The Stables Wine Estate events and tickets to the company
suite at Absa Stadium are among the perks.
The Independent on Saturday will feature news on the February launch of
the club so keep your eye on the newspaper. You’ll be able to read up
about the venue, the chef, the menu and the wines.
Association members and prospective members will meet at a different
restaurant every alternate month, excluding December.
You’ll hear how Tiny and Judy van Niekerk’s appreciation of fine wine
led to a dream to craft wines from their own vineyards. A new adventure
was born and KwaZulu-Natal's pioneering wine estate evolved. Achieving
“the impossible” in the wine industry followed. History was made in 2005
when KwaZulu-Natal was designated as a new wine of origin area, and in
2006 when the Van Niekerks released the first certified
KwaZulu-Natal
wine of origin wine. The future looks rosy and grand plans are
developing.
