Following the process of the
wine-growing year is like watching a thriller movie. The plot ebbs and
flows from one high point to the next before finally delivering ‘the
twist in the tail’...in this case...the wine. But before that, comes
another exciting event...the vine budding... the promise of things to
come.
Pioneering KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) wine producer, The Stables Wine Estate
(The Stables), in conjunction with Experience KZN wine&dine, will be
hosting their annual ‘Vine Budding’ event over the weekend of 23
October. The festival is a wine-blending competition where members of
the public (over the age of 18 years) can have a go of blending the next
vintage of The Stables ‘Raggie Red’ wine. Every competitor is provided
with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinotage wines, which they
are then encouraged to blend in order to create the winning wine.
The cost of R125 per person includes a finger lunch, entry into the
competition and wine for blending (and drinking!) throughout the day!
Now in its fourth year, the first blending competition was won by
Springbok and Sharks rugby player, Johan Muller, whose winning blend
went on to become the Estate’s first ever ‘Raggie Red’.
